Week 10

Sub culture group : Y2K

This week we focused on the Y2K tribe. Something we talked about in week 9 but I didn’t focus on. Y2K literally stands for "Year 2000." Y2K style has made a major comeback thanks to nostalgia, social media (especially TikTok), and Gen Z’s love for retro trends. It's about embracing a playful, tech-inspired vibe while celebrating an optimistic view of the future—very much in contrast to the current era’s minimalism. The Y2K fashion includes super low rise jeans, layered outfits (dress over jeans) bright colors, metallics, and lots of accessories.

I love the Y2K trend but it’s not typically my personal style so this was a lot of fun for me! We decided to make it into the shape of a star to immediately get the attention of our customers. stars appeared in a lot of patterns during the Y2K era so it only felt natural. Glitter and sparkles were everywhere in the early 2000s of course we had beads that you throw into your toilet after scrubbing it to turn the water bright pink and sparkling to match your lipgloss and they leave your bathroom smelling like cherry. Small handbags were all the rage so we included a beaded handle on our toilet cleaner. The price is higher to make up for the color changing toilet water beads, the handle, and the unique shape of the bottle.
